What's New Here?

A pulsating metropolitan, the capital of Philippines has much to offer to the discerning tourist as well as those on a budget travel here. Being one of the most popular vacation destinations in Asia, it isn't hard to find cheap flights to Manila. A true blue cosmopolitan, the city is a cultural melting pot with various religions, traditions, ethnicities, beliefs and values living and thriving in sweet harmony.

Hugely exciting, Manila exudes a fascinating charm like no other. A daunting yet vibrant and dynamic capital, the city is laden with a multitude of historic sites and interesting places to see, not to forget a long list of things to do. No matter whether one's here for a short vacation or an extended one, looking forward to a luxurious stay or a more modest one, Manila always offers an unforgettable experience.

Cheap hotels, bed and breakfasts, motels, holiday homes, apartments, and five-star hotels, the city's got them all. An amazingly intriguing place by the day and an equally dazzling and lively one at night, the capital of Philippines has everyone enthralled. Historic building and ruins standing tall and pretty alongside modern structures, the hustle and bustle of city life existing next to the verdant countryside, the city's contrasting character is highly alluring at one moment and terribly exciting the other.

One of the major and oldest attractions in Manila happens to be Intramuros. Situated on southern bank of the Pasig River, the medieval Spanish walled enclave is replete with ancient yet magnificent buildings and ornate churches. Surrounding this antiquated place are various performing venues, art galleries, shops and restaurants that make Intramuros a fascinating tourist mecca. Museums, exhibitions, music halls, theaters, opera houses and cinemas abound in Manila, hence the city turns out to be a haven for history buffs and art aficionados alike.

Enjoy recreation for you and your entire family at the Rizal Park, marvel at the San Augustin Church, see how the nation is run at the Malacanang Palace, now the seat of government, have a quiet moment at the American Cemetery and Memorial, see your kids enjoy at the Enchanted Kingdom or see them make a splash at the Splash Island, shop till you drop at the chaotic Divisoria Market, or pick up indigenous works of art from the Nayong Filipino Cultural Park.

Apart from enjoying the city life that Manila readily affords one with, short day trips or weekend getaways are an equally exciting way of enjoying the surrounding areas. Excursions can be undertaken to places like Las Pinas, Corregidor, Tayagtay City, Banaue, Puerto Galera, and the island of Palawan. As mentioned earlier, the city of Manila dons a different hue as the night falls.

Glittering lights of dance clubs, attractive ambiances of lounges, inviting and innovative menus of fancy restaurants, and lively conversations with locals at an elegant café, nightlife in Manila is as varied as can be. Flea markets, glitzy malls, small designer boutiques and a plethora of retail outlets, shopaholics are in for some real treat here.

Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca site located 7,970 ft above sea level.Ir is the one among the seven wonder of the world. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World.

Machu Picchu was built around 1450, at the height of the Inca Empire. It was abandoned just over 100 years later, in 1572, as a belated result of the Spanish Conquest. It is likely that most of its inhabitants died from smallpox introduced by travelers before the Spanish conquistadores arrived in the area. The latter had notes of a place called Piccho, although there is no record of the Spanish having visited the remote city. The types of sacred rocks defaced by the conquistadors in other locations are untouched at Machu Picchu.

Archaeologists estimate that approximately 1200 people could have lived in the area, though many theorize it was most likely a retreat for Incan rulers. Due to it’s isolation from the rest of Peru, living in the area full time would require traveling great distances just to reach the nearest village.

It is Separated into three areas - agricultural, urban, and religious - the structures are arranged so that the function of the buildings matches the form of their surroundings. The agricultural terracing and aqueducts take advantage of the natural slopes; the lower areas contain buildings occupied by farmers and teachers, and the most important religious areas are located at the crest of the hill, overlooking the lush Urubamba Valley thousands of feet below.

Hikers, tourists, and the early explorers describe similar emotions as they climb their way through the Inca Trail. Many call the experience magical. Glancing out from the Funerary Rock Hut on all the temples, fields, terraces, and baths seems to take you to another time. Blending in with the hillside itself, many say the area creates a seamless and elegant green paradise, making it a must for anyone who travels to Peru.

The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886. The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata  upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue has become an iconic symbol of freedom and of the United States. The flame of the torch is coated in gold leaf. It is one of the symbols of the United States that is recognized all over the world as a symbol of a country to which people fled to escape persecution and oppression.

The interior of the statue is open to visitors. You have to take a ferry from either Liberty Park in New Jersey or Battery Park in New York to reach the location of the statue.

The French sculptor, Frederic Bartholdi, was commissioned to create this monument when it was decided what the gift from France would be. His first model, completed in 1870, was only small and is presently on display in the Jardin de Luxembourg in Paris. The American people built the base and the French people built the sculpture and took responsibility for shipping it to New York. Delays prevented the statue from being presented on the date of the centennial, but the arm and the torch were completed so that at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, these pieces were displayed. Visitors paid 50 cents to climb a tall ladder and view these parts of the structure.

The Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor on July 17, 1885. It was reduced to 350 pieces and shipped in 214 crates. Once it arrived, the statue then had to be put back together. The final construction of the pedestal was completed on April 22, 1886. During the time between this completion and its arrival, the statue was kept in storage. It took four months to reassemble the pieces and was unveiled on October 22, 1886. Read more: http://tiny.ly/V6AH

The Great Pyramid of Giza  is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. It is also called the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Cheops. It is a pyramid situated in the Giza Necropolis of Egypt. It is said it took around 20 years to build the pyramid and the construction came to an end around 2560 BC. It is believed that the Great Pyramid of Giza was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place. There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid- King's chamber, Queen's chamber and unfinished chamber. It  is the one and only honorary member of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is one of the most comprehensively studied buildings in the world. Though the chemical composition of the mortar used to build the Great Pyramid of Giza is known, it could not be re-produced using the present techniques. The temperature inside The Great Pyramid remains constant at 68 degrees F, the same as earth’s internal temperature.
